AWE will be following the NC State mandate in order to encourage social distancing outside the classroom, effective immediately and until further notice, NC State is prohibiting on-campus events, meetings and gatherings. Effective immediately all in person AWE events are cancelled.
AWEbassadors have the opportunity to participate in internal and external programming and workshops, as well as interact with entrepreneurs and leaders in the community.
As an AWEbassador, you will be involved in a variety of activities such as:
- Programming and decision-making
- Outreach to the student community in your particular College
- Marketing – both digital and traditional
- Hosting events and working with speakers
- Volunteering at campus events
As an AWEbassador, you are expected to attend meetings during the academic school year and attend 75% of the events we host.

Megan Candow is a sophomore majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a minor in Business Entrepreneurship. She would like to pursue Entrepreneurship after college and plans to participate in the Engineering Entrepreneurs Program senior design class. She is also studying abroad in Adelaide, Australia for her Entrepreneurship minor this summer. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, baking, skiing, and having fun with her friends
Irina Pedrew is a fourth-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student. She is working on her own startup company based on a technology of her own invention from work done in the vet school.
Rebecca Jones is a fourth-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student. She loves all animals but has a particular warm fuzzy spot for sheep. She is interested in both business and public health. She hopes to use her career to benefit people, as much as, animals. In her spare time, you can find her rock climbing or exploring Raleigh.
Stephanie is a senior majoring in finance and minoring in Spanish. After graduation, she hopes to work at a bank or as a financial analyst for a company. Stephanie loves to read and write and her favorite pastime is going to concerts. At the end of the day, she loves to wind down with a good TV show and a big bowl of pasta.
Grace Williamson is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. She has had experience with marketing and public relations consulting before returning to grad school at NC State.
Madeline Yun is a senior in Chemical Engineering, with a concentration in Biomanufacturing. She is Cofounder and Chief Business Development Officer of financial technology company, RapidCat Inc. She is passionate about empowering women, and human rights. In her free time, you can find her and her daughter biking along the Capital Area Greenway.
Lauren Boyd is a junior, studying Fashion and Textile Management, with a concentration in Product Development. She aspires to be an entrepreneur one day, designing her own clothing line. Lauren spends her free time traveling or watching movies, curled up next to her sweet dogs.
Kori Hyer is a senior studying Fashion and Textile Design, with a concentration in Fashion Design. She has a passion for innovation, and hopes to one day own her own entrepreneurial business. She is highly interested in 3D apparel design and other new technology in the fashion industry, specifically in the activewear world. Outside of AWE, she is the lead photographer for Platform Magazine. In her free time, she loves to paint and spend time outside, especially by an ocean.
Kristen is an undergraduate senior majoring in Sustainable Materials and Technology, with minors in both Environmental Science and Business Administration. Her goal is to bridge sustainability and business to help companies better serve people and the environment. She is a team player who seeks to empower her coworkers and strives to cultivate a positive environment where everyone can do their best work. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor sports such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and camping.
Hannah is a senior majoring in Graphic Design, and she hopes to work for a design, branding, and experience agency when she graduates. She is the lead designer at ELK Backpacks, a company she and a few friends started in 2017. ELK Backpacks sells casual, waterproof backpacks with anti-theft features. Growing a business has been difficult, but Hannah is always up for a challenge. She has a passion for design and hopes to one day use design to improve the lives of users and make an impact in the world.
Sarah Boon is a sophomore in Graphic Design, primarily interested in brand identity. She is the founder of her own branding agency called Sapient, which focuses on the creation of meaningful design systems to enhance and promote human goals, visions, and values. She works both out of North Carolina and Florida, her home state, for creating brands for a wide range of companies and initiatives. In her spare time, she is riding horses on the NC State Hunt Seat Equestrian team, painting, creating more design work, and finding new ways to not have spare time.
Ha ThiThanh Nguyen
Ha is a doctoral candidate in Teacher Professional Development at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, USA). Ha was a teacher and teacher trainer in Vietnam for five years before she received the Fulbright Scholarship in 2014 to pursue Double Major Master’s Degree in Southern Illinois University (Carbondale). Her life goal is to improve English language educational access and quality for children in developing countries. Apart from her industry career, she also plans to open an online institute that trains soft skills to students and young professionals in developing countries to help socio-economic development in these countries. These skills include public speaking skills, leadership skills, and American culture in the workplace.
Natalie Hampton is director of marketing and communication for the Graduate School at NC State. She has worked with the university since 1985 in different communications roles. She is an aspiring entrepreneur who hopes to develop a business in beer and wine tourism. She enjoys networking with and learning from other NC State entrepreneurs.
Avery Matthews is a sophomore studying Fashion and Textile Management, with a concentration in product development. She has a strong interest in the fitness apparel industry, and the future of integrating smart technologies in athletic apparel. On campus she is a leader for Delight college ministries and a group fitness instructor. Her hobbies include being active, reading good books, and hanging out with her dogs!
Melissa Doidge is a junior, studying Fashion and Textile Management, with a concentration in Marketing. She is passionate about entrepreneurship and dreams of starting her own boutique. In her free time, she loves traveling, watching movies, and playing card games with friends.
